Nostalgia and a new FormSpring logo

Muchas gracias to Ed Illig of Brainstorm who helped put together a new logo for FormSpring. I wasn’t very happy with the old one, asked him for help, and he more than pulled through:

New FormSpring Logo

I did some of my first freelance work for Brainstorm and worked a couple summers there while I was still in college. One of the many things I learned from the Brainstorm owners was the fun of bootstrapping at a small business.

The first summer I worked there they had two offices in a one-story building, and unfortunately the two offices weren’t right next to each other. What made this bad was that we shared a single phone line between the two offices for fax and Internet access, so every time I had to upload changes to a web site I had to run down the hall and make sure it was OK to use the phone line. And if I was online and someone was trying to send us a fax they’d call the main line, I’d have to disconnect, and then keep running down the hall to see if the fax had come in so I could get back online.

That was about 10 years ago though. Now they have plush digs with Herman Miller chairs, Ikea desks, T1 lines and so on. It’s hard to imagine what it’d be like to do that kind of work on a phone line again.

You forgot having to take the afternoon off when the bookkeeper came in and she had to use your computer.

I have fond memories of being packed in 2-to-an-office in the original Brainstorm digs. Remember having to answer the phone and running down the hall to ‘transfer’ the call? And who can forget the colorful neighbors.

Next week, nostalgia of the new Brainstorm office: Pop-Ice!

Ah, yes. 2-to-an-office? What about when Brad, you and I shared an office? And that reminds me … until you started telecommuting I had to have the plastic desk. Fun times.

    Pop-Ice is definitely a must-blog-about topic.

But did this place have a revolving door where 2 people went through at the same time (one of them unwillingly)?

Revolving door? I wish. After walking to work uphill in the snow (even though I worked there in the summer) we had to climb a tree, jump 15 feet onto the roof, break into the attic, then crawl through the heating ducts into our office. And to top it off, any damage to the tree was deducted from our paychecks.

Wow, you have an “illig.” I am so jealous!

Yes, the “illig” is a prized possession. But you do get the benefit of an “ian” anytime you want. You definitely don’t want an “ade” — the only font I use is courier. :)
